Brake honours safety conscious organisations at annual Fleet Safety Awards
10th June 2014

Three key Interactive Driving Systems clients BT, E.ON and Nestlé, have all been honoured for working hard to reduce road crashes involving at-work drivers during Brake's Fleet Safety Awards 2014.

BT received the Fleet Safety Partnership Award in collaboration with Interactive Driving Systems. This category recognises partnerships that have delivered outstanding results to improve fleet safety. The award citation said: The winning partnership comes from a large fleet operator and service provider who have worked together for more than 13 years on:

  • A data-led approach to risk management and targeted management and driver engagement.
  • Collaboration with university researchers to analyse and promote best practice more widely across the sector.
  • A comprehensive and innovative partnership that has more than halved the company's insurance claims since 2002.

BT was also highly commended in the Fleet Safety Innovation Award for its Secure Single Sign On project, making its fleet safety systems more efficient for managers and drivers to participate in the program.

E.ON received the Fleet Safety Analysis and Action Award which recognises procedures for carrying out risk assessments, data analysis and introducing tailored interventions. The judges were impressed by E.ON's:

  • Comprehensive program of online risk assessments, training and coaching that feeds into a risk data warehouse, with information used to target relevant coaching and OneToOne interventions.
  • Interventions with specific groups of drivers, such as young drivers and apprentices.
  • Success in reducing the number and cost of collisions across a large fleet by continually developing the program over eight years, with third party claims falling by 44% between 2012 and 2013.

E.ON was also highly commended in the larger fleets category of the Company Driver Safety Award for its road risk initiatives including banning hands-free phone use and working with its grey fleet drivers.

Nestlé was highly commended in three categories:

  • Fleet Safety Analysis and Action Award for the detailed risk assessment and data analysis used to inform its intervention programs.
  • Road Safety in the Community Award for its global initiatives on road safety, including a company-wide Road Safety Week and collaborations with the Global Road Safety Partnership.
  • Fleet Safety Partnership Award with Zurich Risk Engineering and Interactive Driving Systems for their three-way partnership between a global fleet operator, fleet service provider and insurer working together on a comprehensive global program.

Andy Cuerden, European Managing Director at Interactive Driving Systems said: "The performance, sincerity and commitment to road safety of our clients and partners continues to be inspiring, and this recognition for BT E.ON and Nestlé is a well-deserved reflection of that long term sustained commitment. It is a pleasure to work with such organisations and long may their programs continue as they further evolve, innovate and lead the industry."

Winners were announced at a prestigious gala dinner held Thursday 5 June 2014 at St John's Hotel in Solihull, UK. The awards, sponsored by Arval, were attended by nearly 300 guests - the highest attendance ever. Generous donations, including silent auction bids and raffle ticket sales, raised more than £8,000 for Brake.

Altogether, 112 award entries were received from more than 40 organisations this year.
