2009 Fleet Safety Conferences Show Way Forward For Work-Related Road Safety In New Zealand
7th December 2009
A ground breaking Fleet Safety Conference, organized by FleetSafe NZ, GSB Supplycorp, Boomrock and PCS Transport Consulting, was held Monday 09 November at Westpac Stadium Wellington and Tuesday 10 November at Alexandra Park Auckland.

The Auckland conference was officially opened by the Minister of Transport Hon Steven Joyce. Work-related crashes are the most common cause of occupational related deaths and injuries which directly affects work place productivity and costs. Crashes also indirectly impact on society and the environment through fuel efficiency.

Three keynote speakers presented papers: Dr Will Murray (Interactive Driving Systems® - UK) who has been instrumental in leading international fleet safety initiatives, such as the 2009 National Institute for Occupational Safety and health (NIOSH) Washington DC conference, Dr Sam Charlton (Associate Professor Waikato University) and Peter Baas (TERNZ Transport Research - NZ).

In addition to the keynote speakers, the conferences were well supported by NZ government and the Motor Industry with speakers from agencies including MOT, NZTA, ACC, ECCA and industry, and sponsorship from Tranzqual ITO, ECCA Business, Hyundai, Audi, Bridgstone, Suzuki, VW, Skoda and Nissan.

The conferences, were hailed as a great success, with almost 200 participants attending, and several initiatives being launched, including the results of year long trials of Virtual Risk Manager® New Zealand which is due to be launched in January 2010 click here.
