ROAD SAFETY WEEK
Employers are being encouraged to organise events and activities for this year's Road Safety Week (18 - 24 November) promoting the theme 'tune into road'.

Road Safety Week is coordinated by the road safety charity Brake and involves thousands of organisations, schools and communities promoting road safety. This year the Week focuses on the theme tune in, urging everyone to stay focused when using roads and avoid distractions - a key message for employers to communicate.

FORK LIFT TRUCK SAFETY WEEK - 23 - 27TH SEPTEMBER, 2013 - AND CONFERENCE
Hosted by the Fork Lift Truck Association, Fork Lift Safety Week was launched in 2008 to raise awareness of the dangers of fork lift environments, and the importance of common sense measures to make fork lift operation as safe and efficient as possible. It is a great event to use to launch fork lift truck safety campaigns around. Click for more information

WORKSHOP ON CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND ROAD SAFETY
Arval, Brake and Interactive Driving Systems have joined forces to host a workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and road safety. CSR is an increasingly important way for businesses to demonstrate their commitment to improving safety and minimising their environmental impact. This webinar will discuss approaches to CSR, and how work-related road safety fits into the wider CSR picture. It will discuss the importance of community initiatives including Road Safety Week, and give examples of companies that have successfully integrated road safety into their CSR strategies.

WORK-RELATED ROAD SAFETY GUIDANCE FOR SMES
Brake is running a series of free and low-cost events aimed specifically at small businesses with the support of the Department for Transport. These events will raise awareness of the risks associated with at-work driving, aiming to encourage and enable small businesses to address those risks.

US RESEARCH REPORTS ON YOUNGER DRIVERS AND VEHICLE AGE
The NIOSH Center for Motor Vehicle Safety has released two new fact sheets to help young drivers stay safe on the job. These fact sheets, one for employers and the other for parents and young workers, present case reports and provide learning points and crash prevention recommendations for young drivers, parents, and employers. Information on federal and state laws is also provided, as well as additional resources.

AIRSO WORKSHOPS AND EVENTS
The Association of Industrial Road Safety Officers (AIRSO), a registered charity, is an independent membership organisation working in the interests of road safety.

UK HSE UPDATES GUIDANCE ON FORKLIFT TRUCK OPERATOR TRAINING
The Health and Safety Commission has published an Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and guidance called Rider-operated lift trucks: Operator training.

This sets the legal minimum standard of basic training people should receive before they are allowed to operate certain types of lift truck - even if they only operate the equipment occasionally. It also provides detailed guidance about how they can meet this standard. Click for more information
